Collective Impact Project – The Power of Partnership

Let’s Read has partnered with other stakeholders to collectively impact literacy development in Trinidad and Tobago. All participants have a shared vision for change including a common understanding of the problem and a joint approach to solving it through agreed upon actions. Some of these actions include:

  • The removal of a 12.5% tax on children’s books read for pleasure. There is no government-imposed tax on curriculum-based workbooks or textbooks, but the collective understands that children discover the joy of reading through exposure to books that get them excited about reading. The removal of the tax on books will provide for increased access to these types of books.
  • The collection of literacy data. Literacy data for Trinidad and Tobago has not been updated since the 1970’s. Current literacy data will allow the Collective Impact group to more effectively determine the cause of problems and work on effective solutions.
